Day care had a Friday night thing, and I was tired of not having a fun car (the F-car is in the shop......again).

So I Turo’d a Jag F-Type. It’s one of the best-sounding cars under six figures, and it’s so comfy that I easily found myself speeding far too often. Dat low-end torque from the supercharged 3.0 is quite addictive. Handling is decent, not as sharp as a Porsche but good enough for casual driving.

I’d still rather have my own car, but this would have to do for 24 hours. Hmm, there’s a box of cookies in the glove compartment. I wonder how old those are.

Nice rental. How’s the sound?

Side note: someone in my area has a 911 Turbo S on Turo and I’m highly tempted to give it a go.

It sounds really dirty and snorty and naughty and exotic from 2k-4.5k RPM.

After that it mellows out and sounds a little tamer out to redline, which is only 6.5k.

One of the better products from modern day Jaguar. Looks killer (for a non-exotic), sounds killer (even better than some exotics), rides comfortably. That’s what most luxury shoppers care about.

The exhaust mode really makes a dramatic change. Unlike, say, an Alfa 4C, you can actually drive around low-key, without advertising your car aurally.

The 6 is good, but I prefer the 8 myself. It adds a lot more bass to the soundtrack behind your head.

Did it have one of those annoying 100 mile limits for the day? My biggest gripe with Turo is the mileage restriction. If I rent a car, I want to go exploring with it not just pick up groceries and go home. So the ones with 100 or even 150 don’t give me enough for even a single cruise for the day. Unlimited is best but 200 to keep things sane is fine. Sure I can pay $0.75 per mile but that shit adds up real fast!

All the vehicles on our Turo are insanely expensive. Even the boring ones. No, I don’t want to pay $200/day for your tired six-year old Range Rover Sport. Or $400/day for a RCF, which was about the only fun thing on there.

Not necessarily. I have seen plenty of fairly priced ones on there. Plenty of $60-$100 a day for interesting manual things. At least in LA where I have looked. The issue is that most of these have a 100 mile per day allotment which is quite useless. I think the biggest problem is consistency for models. I have seen the same car go for $40, $60, and $100. Either way, there are some really great options if you just want a rental with a manual but dont care if it is interesting. I have seen a manual honda accord for like $30 a day on there.

I’m guessing it must be supply and demand. We only have about 10 cars available in our town, so they probably price them high just because there’s so few.

Mine did, 150 miles. I ended up using 120.

Thank goodness I’m a parent with hardly any time for myself! /s

True, if I were to actually buy an F-Type I would prefer the V8.

But since I already have a batsh*t V8, I was OK with the 6.

It really depends on the availability of certain models as it’s on the car owner to set the rental rate and see if anyone bites.

My F-type was advertised at $190, plus 10% in taxes and fees.....a very fair price IMO. I’m unlikely to rent anything that expensive again—an F-Type is not 3 times the fun of an Abarth that I’m planning to rent next for $58.

I think that’s fair and I’d probably rent one too at that price. But the RCF at $400? Absolutely nuts.

Yup, $400 for a car with a five-figure price tag is CP.
